I am really puzzled by seasons, In the real world we have four - winter, spring, summer and autumn. In the fashion world we have the fundamental spring-summer together with autumn-winter. Somehow the fashion world has gained a couple more "seasons" - cruise, resort and pre-fall....I have no clue why this has happened, designing extra collections must be very challenging as how could you be so inspired to create all these collections. Most end up not being original or really mediocre and just plain boring. The reason for is I think is that the fashion world is increasingly becoming more commercial hence why designers have created sister lines/capsule collections to keep up with the fast pace fashion lovers we live in.
Back to the main point of this post, I was looking at 3.1 Phillip Lim's resort collection and I saw a pair of tailored leather dungarees. I'm a deep blood-sucking sucker for all things buttery leather simultaneously a leech for dungarees. No I am not a hill-billie but dungarees have been looming over the fashion horizon for a profoundly long time - But not enough to enter the mainstream cycle. It has returned in many forms such as short dungarees (playsuit) and the very prominent jumpsuit too so there is still hope for a 90s return! Apart from being a undoubtedly timeless piece its comfortable, easy to style and groovy! So dare to wear leather or one step further - Dungarees 100% fabricated from luxurious crocodile skin designed by Jean Paul Gaultier. Though to be honest, think exotic animal leather couture seems a tad too expensive for a garment originating from poor labour workers dont you think?
